Recasting eligibility, fees, minimum lump sums, seasoning requirements and processing times vary by servicer and can change without notice. Figures for interest saved assume no additional principal payments beyond the lump sum.
Confirm with your servicer
Before making a lump-sum payment, contact your loan servicer directly to confirm that your loan is eligible, what the minimum lump sum is, what the fee is, and how long the process takes. Sending a lump sum without first requesting and confirming a recast is one of the most common and avoidable mistakes borrowers make.
